Compressed carbon shell improves the pedal’s aerodynamics

The revolution of the automatic pedal
The new KEO BLADE CARBON TI is the result of both the technical heritage of LOOK in automatic pedals as well as their industry leading manufacturing knowledge of carbon. The innovation of this pedal is driven by safety, lightness, comfort, efficiency and reliability

With this new concept, a compressed carbon blade guarantees efficient pedal disengagement. Disengagement is 30% easier than a Kéo Carbon as it releases the cleat much more rapidly. The replacement of the spring by a carbon blade reduces the overall weight by 10g in relation to a Kéo 2 Max Carbon.  These advantages make the pedal very secure and allowed us to completely remove tension adjustment. However, to satisfy all cyclists, the Kéo Blade TI exists in two different versions of tension: version 12, which will appeal to the greatest number of riders, and version 16, for racers looking for even more tension.

Optimized contact surface area
To further improve power transmission and to extend the pedal’s service life, the platform now features an over-moulded stainless steel plate in the body of the pedal. For an even more efficient pedal and greater stability, the Kéo Blade Carbon has a pedal platform that is 31% larger in surface area, and more importantly, 17 % wider than a Kéo Carbon.

New axle assembly: extreme reliability
Special attention was paid to reliability: a very durable body, a biinjected lever, new STAINLESS STEEL platform area, new oversized axle and triple bearings make this an extremely safe and durable pedal.

The new axle assemblies of the Kéo Blade Carbon and of the Kéo2 Max Carbon, in titanium and in steel, allow keeping the lowest possible stack height while using a new 12mm oversized axle. They are composed of a pair of miniature roller bearings (12 mm inside x 18 mm outside) as well as a needle bearing. Dual seals assure a very long service life under extreme conditions.

Testing beyond standards
LOOK axles are only approved for production after tests of shock, fatigue and wear far superior to the standard. For example, the pedals are only validated after a rotational test of one million cycles at 100 rpm with a load of 90kg on the centre of the pedal and an off-centre rotation (which creates a shock at each rotation). This test is more stringent than the most demanding standard in force: EN14781 which recommends a load of 65kg on the centre of the pedal for 100 000 cycles.
